Height of Building

Overview

The height option in SMS changes depending on the roof style selected.

  • For gable roof buildings, there is one height requirement.

  • For skillion roof buildings, there are two height requirements — a high side height and a low side height.

Why this is important

  • Determines the structural proportions and usable space of the shed.

  • Ensures roller doors, open bays, and other inclusions meet required clearances.

  • Impacts material quantities, design wind speed compliance, and cost.

Height configuration in SMS

The building height can be adjusted in 1 mm increments, allowing precise control of dimensions to meet design and clearance requirements.

Note:
The maximum height of a building is dependent on other design factors, including span and design wind speed.

Working with roller doors and open bays

When quoting sheds that include roller doors or open bays, ask your client for the minimum clearance height required.

Use that information to work backwards to determine the correct eave height.

Example:
If a client requires a clearance height of 2.7 m for a roller door, the eave height may need to be 3.0 m depending on the door drum and track design.

Tips, best practices & troubleshooting

  • Always check the roof style before adjusting height settings in SMS.

  • Confirm required clearances with the client prior to finalising dimensions.

  • Be aware that increasing height may require upgraded portal frame sizes or bracing adjustments.

  • Review the span and wind classification if maximum height limits are reached.
